Wokingham, UK – (15th August 2013) – Christie®, a global leader in cinema projection, is pleased to announce that the rollout of its DLP® Cinema projectors at Ster-Kinekor Theatres, the largest cinema exhibitor in South Africa, is entering the final phase of completion. The digital projection systems are being installed by Ster-Kinekor’s team of technicians and supported by Christie and Arts Alliance Media (AAM), one of Christie’s key partners in the region.
Almost 400 digital cinema projectors are being rolled out in cinemas owned by Ster-Kinekor Theatres in the major cities of Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town, and across the rest of the country. By the time the installation process will have been completed, all of their cinema screens will have been converted to digital and will be providing audiences with an exceptional viewing experience. This is the first time that the Christie Series 2 projectors, Solaria One and Solaria One+, as well as Christie IMB and Avias TMS™ and 4K resolution, have all been involved in the same rollout.
Ster-Kinekor Theatres’ CEO, Fiaz Mahomed, said, “We are delighted with the progress of the rollout and we are firmly on track to hit our objective of becoming fully DCI-compliant this year. The installation process has been helped enormously by the customer service and support that we have received from Christie and Arts Alliance Media – it really has been first-class and exceeded our expectations.”
Eric Stevens, Commercial Director of Arts Alliance Media, said, “We’re also really happy with the progress of the Ster-Kinekor rollout, and that we’ve been able to work with Christie and Ster to make sure that the exhibitor has the best equipment and software for their needs. South Africa is a key territory for AAM and we’re pleased to see the country’s number one chain approaching full digitisation.”
Richard Nye, Cinema Director EMEA at Christie, commented, “In addition to the current roll out, it gives me great pleasure to say that Ster-Kinekor are continuing to expand their operations and are now looking to order Christie cutting-edge technology and products for more than 20 screens at 3 new sites.”
