Town divided as cinema closes after half a century

THE Avoca Beach cinema is modest, with dinky seats and a single screen. So it is hard to believe the battle seething over this little theatre at one of Sydney’s favourite holiday destinations will lead to its closure tonight, after it has been showing films for the past 55 years.
