The Big Picture:A Summer of Milestones

This summer has seen a long list of milestones in the evolution of digital cinema, but for me none captures the possibilities the technology has to offer quite like the fact that tonight the residents of Silsbee, Texas can see the new Harry Potter film in their hometown theatre. This past weekend the fifty-year old single screen Pines Theatre there became the 2000th screen in the Carmike Theatres chain to go digital.
