Curtain rises on cinema merger

KANSAS CITY — AMC Entertainment Inc., the second-largest U.S. cinema chain, announced plans yesterday to acquire Loews Cineplex Entertainment Corp. in a move that may help the company compete as Hollywood struggles to lure more movie-goers.
