Many congratulations to Nigel Wolland, former chief projectionist at the Odeon Leicester Square who has been awarded an MBE for services to the film industry in this year’s birthday honourees list. Ian Grey has a nice little piece in his blog. NB Nigel isn’t the first projectionist to be awarded in this way, a recent email states:
Dear Sir, just to let you know (emend)? Ronald Curry Doncaster projectionist was awarded the MBE in June 1997 for services to film. So Mr Wolland is not the first proj to be awarded this honour. Mr Curry was also awarded a Blue Plaque in 1996 by the British Film Institute the 100 Year of cinema.Mr Curry served on the Rank sub com with Mr Wolland fighting for better conditions and pay for cinema workers.
