The Walt Disney Studios is benefiting from theaters equipped with the REAL D 3-D technology that has brought to life its re-release of Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas. Having grossed $3.3 million on 168 screens nationwide ($19,500 per screen) in its first weekend, Nightmare in 3-D pulled in $1.9 million this past weekend, for a cumulative gross of $6 million. The film’s box office success to date is a promising note for this year’s movie exhibition business as well as Disney Digital 3-D’s new banner.
