2021 saw a lot of day-and-date releases for Warner Bros films as the pandemic kept many inside. New Line Cinema’s Mortal Kombat reboot was one of those releases. The film had a $55 million budget and made $84.4 million at the box office, seemingly overachieving. The film was also a hit on the HBO Max streaming service. According to Deadline, this initiated a fast-developing sequel which will see director Simon McQuoid return.
