IN ITS heyday, Marrickville had three art deco cinemas with capacity to screen “moving pictures” to up to 6200 moviegoers a night.But as Sydney evolved, so did the way people watch movies, and one by one competition from larger multiplex cinemas forced the 1950s picture houses into closure.
