In Shirley Abraham and Amit Madheshiya’s subtle and beautiful new documentary, “The Cinema Travellers,” we are reminded of a time, before the advent of laptops and home streaming services, when seeing a movie was largely a communal experience. For villagers in the Indian countryside, these experiences occurred once a year, sitting on the ground in a tent as the magic of Bollywood came to life on a screen through a projector mounted in the back of a truck. Capturing the dying days of India’s touring cinemas, “The Cinema Travellers” follows the struggles of three men fighting to keep the tradition alive.
