A new £37.5m cinema, theatre and library complex in Chester city centre came a step close after the council appointed a design and construction team.

The Odeon cinema in Northgate Street, a Grade II-listed building originally built in 1936, shut in June 2007 but a new era beckons after construction giant Kier and architecture practice Bennetts Associates were appointed to transform the site into a cultural centre.
