The newly refurbished Odeon Luxe Dundee has opened its doors giving cinema goers a first glimpse of its mural in tribute to the city.
The company asked locals to share what they love about their hometown and got artist Anna Morozova to include them in an amazing mural to go on show in the foyer. The original Odeon Dundee had a comic mural painted by local school schoolchildren. Morozova, a University of Dundee Comics and Graphic Novels alumni, came up with a three metres by two metres creation in the style of the Beano and Dandy comics, featuring Dundee cake, jam, the Tay Road Bridge and the city’s mythical dragon.
Odeon Luxe Dundee general manager Kim Thorne said: “We are so delighted to be celebrating not only the opening of our fantastic new Odeon Luxe Dundee, but also the city’s incredible contribution to the comic book industry, which of course inspired many modern blockbusters.
“We hope all Dundee locals feel a sense of pride as they walk through our doors and see the astounding comic mural inside, and we can’t wait to welcome all of our guests to experience the new Odeon Luxe Dundee.”
The upgraded cinema itself includes 881 fully reclining seats across 10 refurbished screens, with increased leg-room and individual retractable tables and a hero iSense screen with Dolby ATMOS 3D sound.
