CINEMACON TO HOST A SPECIAL FIRESIDE CHAT ON THE STATE OF THE 3D INDUSTRY WITH AVATAR PRODUCER JON LANDAU AND REALD CO-FOUNDER AND CEO, MICHAEL V. LEWIS ON APRIL 14 AT CINEMACON

April 8, 2016 – Las Vegas, NVCinemaCon and the International Cinema Technology Association announced today the addition of an exclusive fireside chat between Academy Award-winning film producer Jon Landau (Titanic, Avatar, and the Avatar sequels) and RealD Co-Founder and CEO Michael V. Lewis, it was announced today by the ICTA’s President Mike Archer and Mitch Neuhauser, Managing Director of CinemaCon. CinemaCon, the official convention of The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO) will be held April 11-14, 2016 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

 

The exclusive fireside chat will take place during the ICTA’s Thursday morning seminar in Las Vegas, titled “Demystifying 3D: How The Resurgence of 3D Is Driving Innovative Storytelling and Box Office.” The conversation will focus on the evolution of 3D and the current technological advances, along with an inside look into current conversion techniques and the unique ways studios and filmmakers are using them to create today’s most in-demand blockbusters.

 

In addition to the fireside chat, the ICTA has assembled a panel of prominent industry experts including Paul Becker (Producer / Gener8), Chris Parks (Creative Director and Stereo Supervisor/ Vision3 Ltd.) and Corey Turner (SVP, Post Production/ Paramount Pictures) along with moderator Jonathan Penn (Director of Content Programming & Analysis/ Cinemark Theatres) as they offer unique perspectives of each working in 3D.

 

“Last year, 8 of the top 10 grossing films were released in 3D and this enhanced visual format has made an enormous resurgence in recent years,” said Neuhauser. “We could not be more excited to welcome Jon Landau and Michael Lewis as well as all of the other extraordinary panelists the ICTA has assembled to showcase and explain the latest innovations in this extraordinary visual technology.”

 

2015 offered one of the strongest and most memorable 3d slates in many years and 2016 is equally as strong with 35 major studio releases to be presented in the 3D format.

 

Most recently Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, opened with approximately 40% of its estimated domestic opening weekend gross on 3D equipped screens. Upcoming films such as Jungle Book, Ghostbusters, Captain America: Civil War, Independence Day: Resurgence, Alice Through The Looking Glass will also be presented in the 3D format
