CJ 4D PLEX, a subsidiary of South Korean conglomerate CJ Group’s cinema franchise wing, will showcase a new futuristic super-immersive theater platform at a trade show in Las Vegas next month. The company has combined innovative 4DX and ScreenX cinema formats to provide immersive cinema experiences to moviegoers.
Screen X is a 270-degree panoramic screen system which has two more screens added to both sides of a conventional screen, providing a wider angle of view and immersing viewer experience. 4DX using an array of special equipment provides chair-embedded sensory effects such as puffs of air, scented mist, seat motion, wind blowing and vibration to match what’s happening on the screen.
CJ 4D PLEX said on Tuesday that a new type of special “ScreenX” screens and 4DX motion theater seats will be revealed at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2020. The new seats used for a new 4DX system have a motion range of up to 10 times larger than the previous model. Movements and connections become more natural, allowing the audience to feel real moves.
“We are the first from South Korea’s film industry to participate in CES,” CJ 4D PLEX CEO Kim Jong-yeol was quoted as saying. The new type of Screen X has a pentagonal ceiling screen and two screens added to both sides of a conventional screen.
In June last year, CJ CGV, the CJ group’s cinema chain, signed a deal with Cineworld, the world’s second-largest cinema chain, to open 100 more ScreenX theaters in countries such as the United States, Britain, Israel and European countries. London-based Cineworld operates more than 9,500 screens across the world.
