The Kingsway cinema in Kings Heath is to screen its first movies for four decades – even though it was destroyed by fire in 2011 and no longer exists.
The Kingsway is coming back to life as a cinema at the heart of Kings Heath – nine years after it was destroyed in a blaze.
The Kings Heath High Street was ravaged by fire in 2011 but the frontage is still standing.
And so, just like Frankenstein, the classic horror film directed by Dudley-born James Whale in 1931, it’s rebirth is a perfect example of the magic of the movies.
Now that the land behind the frontage has been fully cleared for future redevelopment, the site is being temporarily repurposed for outdoor, socially distanced events beginning with pop-up outdoor cinema screenings.
