Sir Humphry Davy was a 19th century chemist who – amongst many other things – discovered chlorine and iodine. He also invented the ‘Davy lamp’: one of the first forms of an incandescent light bulb. But more importantly to the cinema market: he was the first to demonstrate carbon-arc lighting, somewhere around 1805.
