Investigation into collapse of Odeon building still ongoing more than two years later

The Health and Safety Executive are investigating the collapse of the former cinema, as well as reports of a workman seen with a can of lager at the site hours later.

An investigation into the collapse of the former Newcastle Odeon building is still ongoing more than two years later, safety bosses have confirmed.

Remains of the former picture house on Pilgrim Street, along with some scaffolding, collapsed into the road on April 3, 2017.

Work on what was then a demolition site was halted for more than a week as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) launched an investigation into what went wrong.
