“IT’S OVER”: DEAKINS DECLARES FILM DEAD | One. Perfect. Shot. | Honoring Cinema’s Past – Frame by Frame

Roger Deakins has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography 13 times without a single win. This ties him with George J. Folsey, shooter of such classics as MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS, SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS, and ADAM’S RIB, as the D.o.P. with the most nods but no gold at home. Which is an utter crime when you consider the list of films Deakins has been nominated for, and yes I’m going to list them because they prove a point: THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, FARGO, KUNDUN, O BROTHER WHERE ART THOU?, THE MAN WHO WASN’T THERE, NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD (these last two in the same damn year), THE READER, TRUE GRIT, SKYFALL, PRISONERS, UNBROKEN, and this year for SICARIO.
