Leicester Square is one of London`s top attractions and there are hundreds of reasons why. There are excellent cinemas in the Square and a stone`s throw away and then there are all of the wonderful places to eat and drink. The Oxford Street shops are also a short walk away.
You`ll even find outlets selling tickets to top West End Shows (often at half price) and people handing out flyers (which often offer discounts) for top Comedy clubs. You name it, Leicester Square has it, or at least it seems that way!
Celebrity Sparkle
You might not go there expecting to see stars but there`s every chance that you could spot Tom Cruise, Kate Winslet or Scarlet Johansson in Leicester Square. Stars have graced the red carpets there since the Golden Days of Hollywood. The UK`s Film Premieres are hosted at the Leicester Square Odeon and Empire cinemas which are the most imposing buildings in the Square and something of a focal point.
Eating Out
Whatever you`re in the mood for it`s probably close by, delicious ice creams and desserts, English treats such as fish and chips, pub food, Mexican food, fast food burgers and pizzerias, are all just a few of the types of food which you`ll find on sale.
Drinks and Dancing
For a cheap pint you might like to visit The Moon Under Water which is in the square between the cinemas and is a JD Wetherspoons pub selling international beers at affordable prices. All Bar One is another chain pub aimed at 21s and over only. Then there are more traditional British pubs such as The Crooked Surgeon a short wander from the square and many other places to grab a drink.
For a night out dancing, consider visiting the Sound nightclub or Cafe De Paris a short walk away. Alternatively, you could literally have a laugh and go to The Comedy Store or one of the other fantastic Comedy clubs and special nights ran close to Leicester Square.
Those of you who love movies will undoubtedly be impressed by the grand Cinemas, but if you want to experience something with an old fashioned charm and a quirky sense of style pop in to the nearby Prince Charles Cinema. It sells tickets for some films for as little as £1.50 each and shows international cinema alongside blockbusters. Snacks are also affordable. The Prince Charles is a favourite with directors Quentin Tarantino and Kevin Smith and it has a small, traditional picture-house feel.
Sleeping in Style
There are several excellent hotels close to Leicester Square. The 3 star Strand Palace is within walking range and offers special rates through some booking agents but there are many other options.
It`s easy to get to Leicester Square on foot, by tube or by bus. The Leicester Square Tube station is located on both the Northern and Piccadilly Lines and buses run every 12 minutes. Those who want cheap tickets should purchase an Oyster card.
