A few weeks back two of the writers of JGL had a debate on whether we would ultimately miss traditional film format as many film companies seem to be heavily in favour of converting completely to the digital format. If you asked me my thoughts about four years ago, I probably would have said digital. It’s a lot cheaper to produce and copy, it requires a lot less manpower and some would argue that it ultimately looks more professional, smarter and gives an overall better quality than celluloid does. However, I was fortunate enough in the Projection booths dying breath to have an eighteen month period of training to become both a 35mm and digital technician as well as learn more about the technical skills required to work in a cinema environment.
