PARK CIRCUS JOINS ARTS ALLIANCE
Classic movies take centre stage inside leading event cinema business
London, 24th September 2014: Arts Alliance Ltd, the leading financier, producer, distributor and marketeer of event cinema, announced today that it has completed its investment in Park Circus, the Scottish-based, global distributor of classic feature films.
Park Circus, established in 2003, represents theatrical distribution of over 20,000 titles from the majority of the Hollywood film studios as well as those of key major British producers. With exhibitor relationships in over 80 territories, Park Circus is the largest theatrical distributor of classic movies in the world and it has the pleasure of representing the most extensive and prestigious catalogue of classic films available to cinemas on a global basis. The distributor has also been a pioneer in making classic films available for digital cinema with over 1,000 classic films now available for theatrical distribution in this format.
Over the years, Park Circus has re-issued such screen classics as Lawrence of Arabia, The Godfather, Brief Encounter, Heaven’s Gate, Casablanca and It’s A Wonderful Life. From the earliest days of cinema to the present day, Park Circus is proud to represent films as diverse as Buster Keaton’s The General to Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction.
Upcoming releases from Park Circus include Jacques Tati’s Playtime, sci‐fi ‘B’ picture Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Samuel Goldwyn’s Guys and Dolls.
At a time when viewing habits are changing, and new technologies make what was previously impossible now possible, the joining together of these two companies provides cinema exhibitors with an unrivalled portfolio of non-first‐run feature content to offer their customers and audiences.
Arts Alliance’s existing event cinema output includes the Royal Opera House opera and ballet, theatre from Shakespeare’s Globe and a new series of original commissions focused on arts events, including the recent Matisse exhibition event from Tate Modern, a new season from Exhibition On Screen, as well as the successful current cinema release Hermitage Revealed, about the legendary Russian museum. Arts Alliance is also active in the popular music genre, and next month it will distribute the hugely-anticipated One Direction – Where We Are concert into more than 3,000 screens worldwide.
Mark Foster, CEO of Arts Alliance, says:
“We are delighted to welcome Park Circus and its founders, Nick Varley and John Letham into the Arts Alliance family. Nick, John and their team have established an unmatched reputation as the go-to suppliers of classic movies for exhibitors from all around the world. They are passionate about cinema and its rich heritage and now we are aiming to help Park Circus expand its footprint and grow audiences for classic cinema around the world. This new relationship complements our existing content strategy with the peerless and timeless quality of the films that Park Circus represents sitting elegantly alongside the existing Arts Alliance offer to cinemas, which is all about offering the best of the best.”

Nick Varley, Managing Director of Park Circus, adds:
“This is really exciting news, both for Park Circus and for audiences who are increasingly looking for a more varied programme from their local cinema. At one level it is business as usual for Park Circus as we continue to serve our valued studio clients as well as servicing our growing network of cinema screens. However, with the backing of Arts Alliance’s global cinema distribution and marketing network we will now be able to expand our reach and deliver more effectively on our mission to get more audiences going to see the wonderful range of films we have to offer.”
