S.F. Opera’s ‘Antony and Cleopatra’ mixes Art Deco sophistication, ancient Egyptian mythology

Organza isn’t usually associated with “power dressing.” The lightweight, transparent fabric is often used to create cloudlike evening dresses; wedding veils; and other garments with soft, overtly feminine cultural connotations. But when soprano Amina Edris puts on the gold organza cape made for the San Francisco Opera’s centennial season-opening production of “Antony and Cleopatra,” the material suddenly takes on a surprising strength.
