This week has seen the futures of coastal towns and villages across Scotland boosted from £9.58m of UK government funding through the Coastal Communities fund.
The announcement of the specific awards was made on a visit to Rothesay by Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander, with these grants part of the third round of the government’s £116.6m Coastal Communities Fund, which has already contributed £7.6m to coastal areas across Scotland.
As already noted in For Argyll, one of the successful coastal communities was Campbeltown in Kintyre, awarded £409,000 to Campbeltown Community Business Limited for the achingly charming cinematic gem of the Campbeltown Picture House which is undergoing a major restoration and redevelopment project.
