It all really started in Pune, last year, where Kamal Haasan was attending the closing ceremony of the Film Preservation and Restoration Workshop at the National Film Archives of India (NFAI). He had asked Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, the organiser of the event and the founder-director of the Film Heritage Foundation, why couldn’t a similar workshop be organised in Chennai, a city of prolific filmmakers which has a ravenous appetite for big-screen offerings.
