Not surprisingly with the major change from Film to Digital in the whole of the Cinema world, from production through distribution to exhibition, there are going to be a number of ‘movies’ coming out about the subject. We have already seen ‘The Last Projectionist‘ last year, and today we have ‘Side-by-Side‘. SIDE BY SIDE, is a new documentary produced by Keanu Reeves, takes an in-depth look at this revolution. Through interviews with directors, cinematographers, film students, producers, technologists, editors, and exhibitors, SIDE BY SIDE examines all aspects of filmmaking — from capture to edit, visual effects to color correction, distribution to archive. At this moment when digital and photochemical filmmaking coexist, SIDE BY SIDE explores what has been gained, what is lost, and what the future might bring.

As you will imagine it has produced a fair amount of debate, there was a blog post by Keanu Reeves’ in today’s Guardian
Newspaper entitled: “Keanu Reeves: the future of cinema” where he talks about why he made this documentary. And as you would
expect on such a subject, Mark Kermode has something to say on this subject:

Of course over the next year things are going to change at a rapid pace. In the not too distant future I will be launching a new site called “We Can Still Show Film” which will aim to provide a list of people and places which will be able to still show films in the future.
