Tacoma’s non-profit cinema, The Grand Cinema, will close its doors and lay off all employees following the end of day Friday. Unable to show films for the foreseeable future, the future remains uncertain for when it could reopen.
“We’re a ticket-driven organization, and without tickets we don’t have any income other than just donations,” said Philip Cowan, executive director at The Grand. “We’re working through this Friday and then, at the end of the day Friday, 100 percent of our staff is laid off.
