The Death of the Arthouse Cinema?

posted in: All News, UK | 0

Just over a year ago a brand spanking new 4 screen arthouse cinema opened in Hackney in a former white elephant of a music venue (it had at one time been the municipal library).   The conversion of the building was extremely impressive.  The cinema screens are comfortable, with tiered seating and plenty of leg room.  The programming has been on the mainstream end of the arthouse, but certainly does not reflect what my old local chain cinema, when I lived in South East London, would be showing.  While Screen 1 might haveSkyfall on, the other screens will be showing far more eclectic fare.
