A spectacular and highly successful exhibition is set to stay in York a little longer than planned, with the announcement that Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience will remain open in York St Mary’s until the end of the Easter holidays.
The attraction, which has drawn over 50,000 visitors since it opened in July, was due to close on 5th January.
The multimedia experience centres around a 360 degree projection in the main nave of the deconsecrated church, which uses the stone arches and high ceiling to stunning effect.
Animated versions of over 200 of Van Gogh’s most famous works are projected onto the walls, whilst a specially written soundtrack and reclined deckchairs encourage visitors to sink into the environment around.
The main show runs on a continuous loop of 35 minutes, and visitors are free to spend as much time as they like in the nave.
